How to Use Bluegrass Live!


Bluegrass Live! is a multimedia and multidiscipline program that provides a complete resource for teachers and students to learn about the fascinating history, sounds, and community of bluegrass music while developing skills in the traditional disciplines of history, language arts, technology, and music education.

Bluegrass Live! includes many exciting features that will help motivate your students to learn and will help you to easily integrate technology into your curriculum. All of these exciting features will be available for you to use each week but you can decide to utilize all or just a few of these features as they complement your existing curriculum.

Program Features

Ask-A-Question: Current bluegrass musicians and songwriters will contribute their expertise to the weekly content on the site. Your students will be able to submit their questions to these experts in the field and receive timely responses that they will look forward to reading each week.

Message Boards: The sitesALIVE! mediated student and teacher message boards enable viewers to interact with each other in a safe environment, sharing what they have learned or discovered in using the Bluegrass Live! website.

Featured Artists: Bluegrass Live! will highlight a different bluegrass musician each week. Students will learn about the musicians from the past as well as new artists just embarking on their music careers.

Glossary: Within each program essay, special terms are linked directly to a glossary, enabling students to easily expand their vocabulary while reading weekly updates

Graphic Organizers: Graphic organizers are available within the program to aid teachers in assessing student understanding as they proceed through the website. Templates for all of the organizers are also stored in the “Teachers” section of the website so teachers can access them and modify them to suit their needs at any time throughout the program.

Audio Files: Our website utilizes “Real Player” so that students can listen to audio files of interviews with musicians or clips of bluegrass music and samples of instrument sounds. If Real Player is not already loaded onto your personal computer, the download is quick, free, and easy. Click on the hyperlink above and follow the simple instructions. Once you have downloaded Real Player, all of the audio files will play with ease.

Essays: An experienced singer and songwriter provides the informational content to teach your students about bluegrass music from past to present.
