Windy Elizabeth Martin
Montgomery, Texas, U.S.A.
Full yearMy main hobbies include horseback riding (Dressage), sailing, playing the trombone and other musical instruments, reading, and watching movies. From Class Afloat I hope to gain knowledge of the world and the chance to graduate early. My greatest challenge will be getting over my fear of heights. Its hard to say exactly what I want to do after this trip because I think it might change my perception of the world. Right now I think I would like to become either a professional Dressage rider in the Olympics or an engineer who designs boats for the America's Cup so that I can bring the cup back to America

Full yearI am looking forward to the experience of sailing around the world but I will have to face the challenges of sleep deprivation, difficult classwork, and trying to sleep in a short bed. My hobbies are hunting, SCUBA diving, motorcycle riding and skiing. I have traveled to more than thirteen different countries already. In the future I hope to go to college and to visit the Bahamas.

Glencoe, Illinois, U.S.A.
Semester 2 onlyI am 18 years old and I’m from the northern suburbs of Chicago. In my spare time I enjoy dancing, cooking, sailing, and traveling. My friends and family are important to me and I will miss them while I am away. After participating in the Concordia's summer program two years ago, I decided to spend my last semester of high school at sea. Class Afloat allows me to travel the world and continue my studies simultaneously.

Full yearI want to take this opportunity on Class Afloat to learn as much as I can about the diversity of life around the world. I hope to make friends that will last a lifetime. The greatest challenges will be trying to concentrate in class while seasick and trying to do homework while everyone else is outside having a good time. After Class Afloat I would like to study to become a physiotherapist or a doctor in sport medicine.

Semester 1 onlyI enjoy hanging out with my friends, playing hockey, football, and pool, and snowboarding. While aboard Concordia I hope to gain knowledge of other parts of the world, make new friends, have an experience of a lifetime, and to learn more about what I really want to do with my life. It will be a challenge to live in a small space, stay awake for night watch, maneuver sails at 3:30 am, and get all of my work done in time. When I get back to Canada I hope to do more traveling and snowboarding while getting good grades and having fun.

2nd Semester onlyI learned about Class Afloat from my sister who was on last semester and I decided to participate for many reasons. First, it will give me a chance to visit countries that I never dreamed of seeing. Second, it will allow me to study in English which is great preparation for university. Third, I’m hoping this trip will help me find out what I enjoy studying the most. Last, I am looking forward to meeting new people and having exciting experiences.
