Meet the 2nd Semester Teachers

Greg Minor

Onboard Director
Park City, Utah, USA

At the age of eighteen, I traveled around the world for the first time. My travels took me to many of the places that the Concordia is visiting this year, including Europe, Australia, and Hawaii. Now eight years later, I welcome the opportunity to be on another journey around the world. I am excited about the long stretches at sea, about getting to know the upper riggings well, and about helping to develop a strong sense of community onboard Concordia. Besides fulfilling my duties as director, I will be teaching English. At the close of this semester, I will spend the second half of 1996 in Devon, England.

Catherine Dumont

Teacher, Assistant Cook
Montreal, Quebec, Canada

I grew up in Montreal, Canada where I went to the Universite de Montreal and earned my degree in Nutrition. I learned about the importance of nutrition from my mother who has been a cook for many years. At an early age, I traveled North America and Europe. The chance to sail aboard a tall ship and help my mother prepare meals for Concordia’s students was my motivation for joining the ship in Durban, South Africa. Before leaving Concordia in Hobart, Australia, I will teach the students nutrition as part of the Career and Life Management course. In Australia, I will spend time with friends and begin a new job.

Natalie Ledoux

Teacher
Montreal, Quebec, Canada

My love of adventure has brought me onboard Concordia. I will be teaching advanced physics, chemistry, and team teaching marine biology with Barbara Herr. Although I don’t have much sailing experience, I am very enthusiastic about learning the lines and setting sails. My interests include camping, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors. I think one of the highlights of this trip will be the diving expedition.

Duncan Lane

Teacher
Toronta, Ontario, Canada

I received my B.A. in Geography and Sociology/Anthropology from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, and my M. Ed. from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, USA. I have backpacked through Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia. I have also ridden my motorcycle across Canada and the US. I am an avid S.C.U.B.A. diver and I hope during the voyage to have the opportunity to dive. I am also looking forward to integrating the various cultures we experience into my Anthropology, Social Studies, and Economics classes.

Barbara Herr

Teacher
Gap, Pennsylvania, Canada

I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, far from the ocean’s edge. After a trip to the coast of Alaska, my interest in marine biology blossomed. As a college student, I studied biology and marine science. After working as a researcher at Woods Hole, I earned my M.A. in teaching science from Boston University. I look forward to working onboard Concordia because the opportunity allows me to combine all my interests: teaching, diving, and traveling.

Devon Cruikshank

Area Coordinator / Teacher
Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada

I am a first timer with Class Afloat and joined the team late in November just before my graduation from McGill. I will be coordinating the land programs for Australia and New Zealand, teaching the CALM course with Dr. MacDonald, and running the daily fitness program. I spent some time studying human movement at The West Sussex Institute of Higher Education in England. I enjoy camping, challenges, and training for triathlons.
