Meet the Semester 1 Teachers


Kristin Smith

Onboard Director
Ottawa, Canada

Kristen returns to Class Afloat as Onboard Director for the second time. She first came to Class Afloat as a student in 1987 and returned in 1993 as a teacher. She has taught Journalism, Social Studies, and Psychology and will teach Physical Education and Career and Life Management (CALM) this year. With over 60,000 nm logged at sea, she has traveled extensively in the Pacific, East Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Central America, and the Middle East. This will be her first time crossing the Atlantic and going through the Suez Canal. After Christmas, she will be returning to the Class Afloat office as Program Director.

 

Phil Holysh

Teacher
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Phil received his BA and B.Ed from the University of British Colombia, in Vancouver, British Colombia. He then went on to receive a master in history from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. He has sailed on Concordia before, exploring the South Pacific from January to June of 1994. His interests include many outdoor activities (hiking and canoeing), traveling, and reading.




Anne Woomer

Teacher
Chester, Connecticut, U.S.A.

Anne will be teaching Oceanography and Journalism on board. She has a great deal of sailing experience and formerly worked for the Sea Education Association. She enjoys reading, walking, and the outdoors. With a great love of travel, she is looking forward to experiencing different cultures through Class Afloat.
