Be a Tour Guide!
Have you ever wanted to
be a tour guide in an exotic locale?

Then enter Ocean Challenge’s Port Guide Contest!

Winners will be published online!
Winning entries will be sent to Concordia!

What do I do?
The first thing to do is pick a city where Concordia is going to stop. You can check where these stops are by clicking here.
Now, learn all you can about that city. You don’t have to actually go there, but you’ll need to do some research about the place. Decide which historic or archeological sites would be the most interesting to visit and which museums you would want to see, and what history would be interesting or important for a first time visitor to know about.
Once you have found all of this information, write a short guide to the city (250 words maximum). Write so that your submission would be helpful to a visitor who is arriving for the first time. Talk about the city’s layout, important architecture, where the tourist sites are,and whatever else you think would be most helpful. It is always important to include some history and a brief note about the culture of the region. That way, people can understand the place better.
How do I enter?
Once you have your description finished, send it to Ocean Challenge. Don't forget to tell us your name, grade in school, and address. You may either
email it to tourguide@oceanchallenge.com
fax it to (617)357-0056
or send it via regular post to:
Ocean Challenge, Inc.
20 Park Plaza, Suite 424
Boston, MA 02116
When are entries due?
We must receive your submission at least two weeks before Concordia reaches your destination. (If we got the guides any later, the students on Concordia wouldn’t be able to use them in port...) Click here for a list of the entry dates.
How are winners chosen?
The staff of Ocean Challenge will choose one winner from Elementary School (up to grade 6) and one from Middle School (grades 6-9.) The winning entries will be posted on the Class Afloat Web site and emailed to Concordia--we might even print some of them in Class Afloat News!
