Q&A with Concordia

What do you miss most about home?
...Mr. Maranville's Class, Abbott School, Westford, MA, 3/7

by Karen May, 3/15

The thing I miss most about home would definitely be my family. I find it really hard to be so far away form them for so long. I also miss my bed and a proper shower. My family is the most important thing in the world for me. Often I get homesick and look at my pictures and think of my family. They will be there when I get home and for the rest of my life. I am probably never going to be with the friends I have made aboard the Concordia again, so, I should spend less time thinking about home, and more time thinking about how good we have it here. I have found that being away for seven months has made my family and I so much more close. My family is what I miss most.

Do you feel that the time off between semesters, the mixing of watches, and the addition of the new students and crew will affect the tight sense of unity we felt as students onboard Concordia for the first semester?
...Aubin D., Class Afloat Fall 1996, 2/21

by Patrick Bartolatz-Sawyer, 3/15

Yes, the time off and the student crew change has made a difference aboard. Last semester all of the students were new and no one knew anyone else. So, we were all starting from scratch. When we returned, all of the first semester student wanted to share some of their holiday experiences with their old friends. It must have been hard for the new students to understand the close bonds of friendship we had. The new students have been incorporated into life aboard ship, but they do not have all of the same experiences that the first semester students have.
