Q&A with Concordia
From the week ending May 9, 1997

I've been accepted as a full-year student in Class Afloat. What advice can you give me?

Congratulations on being accepted to Class Afloat. It is a wonderful experience and I guarantee you will have an awesome time.
At some point in the voyage you will probably get homesick and miss your family and friends. It happens to all of us, but you just have to realize that everyone is going to be there when you get home. In August of last year (1996), I was so nervous that everything at home was going to change while I was away. When I went home at Christmas nothing much had changed. I also thought about how much fun my friends would be having without me, but in fact, I was the one having fun. I was circumnavigating the globe, going to amazing places, and having fun with my new friends. The friendships that you make onboard the Concordia are amazing. You will make new friends your first day onboard next August.

Onboard the Concordia, you will learn a lot about yourself. You will realize how much your family and friends mean to you. My advice is to have a great time this summer with your family and friends. When you leave in August, have a great time in Class Afloat. Then share the experiences with everyone when you get home. And don’t worry, it’s fairly easy to keep in touch with everyone by telephone and letters.

If you want, you can get in touch with me in the summer and I can tell you about my experience with Class Afloat, the things you should bring, and so on. Make the best of everything you do because this voyage goes so fast, it’s unbelievable. I hope I’ve helped a little. Have a great time.
