If you could go back to any place to visit, where would you go and why?

If I could return to any place, it would definitely be the Republic of Maldives. Everywhere we have been has been beautiful, interesting and fun, but Maldives was magical.

We were there during the full moon which made it very bright, and we were able to see and do lots of things by its light. We went night fishing one night, and even though I didn’t catch anything, it was a night that I will always remember. Another night in Maldives, we had dinner on the beach and then a bunch of us went dancing and Josh and Max played instruments for us. Later, I took a walk along the beach with a good friend, walking partly in the water, partly on the beach.

I made some wonderful friends in Maldives. The people were very hospitable. We had homestay visits with Maldivean students. The night I spent in their house was really fun. A group of us went to a neighboring island with Maldivean students and had water fights, and we played soccer and football.

The Republic of Maldives is definitely somewhere that I would like to return someday. There are many wonderful memories that were created there and many new friendships that were forged.

What was the funniest part of the trip?
...Ms. Lyon's Class, Joseph E., Martin School, East Taunton

One thing I would like to make clear about funny moments, is that every day is full of them. Our sleeping schedules can be quite sporadic (only three hours of sleep at a time) which sometimes results in outbursts of hysterical laughter, incomprehensible Norwegian sayings, a slight lack of common sense and much, much more. The atmosphere is prime for funny and strange happenings.

Once upon a time a Class Afloat student named Michelle was brushing her teeth. She lost control of the toothbrush in the midst of vigorous brushing and it landed in the suction drain of the toilet. At any rate, Michelle initially demonstrated the typical ‘hysterical laughter’ behavior as the brush fell several inches down the toilet drain. Due to the resulting noise, a small crowd gathered outside Michelle’s cabin.

Instead of facing our exhausted engineers and asking them to help, Michelle took matters into her own hands. First, she tried to fish out the toothbrush with a pencil, but that soon fell down the hole, too. Next, she squirted Vaseline into the drain because she thought would help the brush slide down. When that didn’t work, Michelle tried some liquid detergent.

None of her attempts were successful so she had to get the engineers to help. Fortunately, they thought the situation was funny and didn’t get upset by the damage she had done to the toilet.
