We got underway right on time, leaving Hong Kong at 12:05 p.m. Hong Kong local time. With so many boats and ships in the harbor, we had to do A LOT of tacking and zig-zagging to get out safely. But we're in open water now sailing well. – Rich Wilson

At 12 we got underway and came out of Hong Kong Harbor. At 5 PM calm came too. In 16 fathoms water. At 6 PM a fine breeze sprung up from NE, got underweigh and came to sea. At 7:30 PM discharged the pilot. Here beginneth our passage. Through the night fresh breezes, sails set on the larboard side later. Just took in royals and all storm sails except from top masts. Wind fresh NNE. – Capt. Waterman
