Escaped high and got into influence of low warm sector along east coast U.S. Couldn't sail low to waypoint of cold eddy, breeze increased occasional mid-20s. After midnight, slight dip in barograph made us gybe to stay in warm sector and not cross to front. Stayed in wind through daybreak heading NNE. – Rich Wilson

Sailed through front, then front moved back over us. Surge up to front with wind, then stop with no wind. Eventually front moved away in evening, after severe calm where steerage way lost, fast through night toward Gulf Stream. Reacher wire luff parted at swage, jib set. – Rich Wilson

A fine breeze from NE built an infernal head sea. Ship ploughing bowsprit under every wave, obliged to shorten sail. Latter part wind hauled to ESE and died away. Up with Bermuda Wednesday. – Capt. Waterman
