| Dilemma
in gybes: starboard closer to course, but sinks us to the south into the high and lighter
winds. Gybed north on starboard, further from course, more wind forecast. Tried starboard
for evening watch, then gybed back to port at midnight. Smoother seas on port gybe, going
down them not across. Rich Wilson |

the spinnaker for much of yesterday afternoon, then the reacher into the night. Course
nearly dead downwind. Sailing this morning within 10 degrees of long-range waypoint at
good speed. Mid-morning shift and lightness brings anxiety. Rich Wilson |

through the night with spinnaker, changed to reacher, then back to spinnaker at midnight.
Making good speed, but course is dead downwind, so not making our course with our speed.
Sailing solo on deck, and handsteering through the night with total full sail up
definitely gets your attention. Rich Wilson |

through the night with spinnaker again. Have handsteered last 48 hours. Adjusted spinnaker
tack to help use autopilot. Crossed Prime Meridian, at 0-degrees longitude in early
evening; we are now in Western Hemisphere. Working to get to stronger breezes further
north. Sea Witch is a rocket ship! Rich Wilson |

winds at start of day, made very little progress. Headed north for stronger winds that
came in through the evening. Passed Saint Helena Island 20 miles off after midnight. Gybed
mid-morning making due true west. First time the seas, winds, clouds truly look like the
trade winds. Rich Wilson |
