Spinnaker Design

ga2spinnaker400hc10.jpg (32227 bytes)This is a design plan, computer generated, for the panel layout of GAII's new spinnaker. Each of the sections in the drawing represents a separately cut piece of cloth.

Each panel is cut to its designed shape. Then each panel is overlapped about 3/8" with its adjacent panel. This overlap is glued together. Then the overlapped seam is stitched by big sewing machines.

Although the cloth comes in flat rolls, when the individual panels are cut in the shown shapes, and then stitched together, the 2-dimensional cloth creates a sail that has a 3-dimensional curved shape.

Isn't this cool?
