Ashley
HarterPermaculture, Humanities A native of Pacific Palisades, California, Ashley comes to The Island School with a deep love of the sea. Her last few years have been spent in the hills of Vermont as an apprentice on an organic vegetable farm that feeds over 1,000 members during the growing season. Ashley is a graduate of the University of Vermont, where she received a BS in Environmental Studies. Her interests in the interdependence of ecology and culture led her around the world as a student in England, India, the Philippines, New Zealand, Mexico, and now as a member of The Island School faculty. One of her many projects at the School is building a vegetable garden on campus, utilizing aquatic and terrestrial resources from on-site for growing mediums. As a kitchen manager she sees to it that effective food flows are integrated from their field source to their sink in the stomachs of students and faculty. She is also a member of the Humanities team and facilitates student community outreach projects. |
