Create-A-Critter

Animals (and plants) all have special features or characteristics that help them to live well in their habitats. These are called adaptations. Think of a place that you like (a pond, a beach, a tree, your back lawn) and imagine yourself living there. Could you survive? How would you eat? How would you avoid predators? How would you breathe and move around? How would you keep warm? Now make up an animal that has special traits to live in your favorite place. What would it look like? Get some pencils, crayons and markers, and make a drawing of your new critter with all of its adaptations for survival. Maybe you can get some clay and make a life-sized critter! Now that you have your new buddy, would it be happy living with you in your home? What do you think?
