Shells in Tide Pools and Shallow Water
Right you are. There are often shells in this area of the sea, and what's best is
that they are fairly easy to get to.
Living shells are most easily found in tide pools by the edge of the ocean. And
if you can scuba dive (see glossary), you can reach shells in depths to several
hundred feet just offshore. This part of the ocean is called the littoral, or
shallow-water, world, and extends to where the depth is about 400 feet.
Coral reefs are another place where you can see lots of living shells.
