As the end of the semester
approaches, the research
groups present conclusions
based on the research they
performed under the guidance
of a faculty member. These
presentations are formal and
are attended by faculty as well
as students. In this picture,
Brian Dean and Tim Schwab
dress up and make their
presentation.

The Great Whaling DebatePublic presentations, both
formal and informal, are a part
of the SFS education. Last
week, the students debated
several sides of the issue of
whaling in the Caribbean.
Groups of students,
representing various interests,
presented convincing arguments
in support of their position.

Talk about getting into your
work! In this picture, Brian and
Tim dress up as fictional native
men who want to hunt whales,
because it is one of the major
sources of nutrition for the
people they represent. Should
they be allowed to hunt and kill
whales for food? What do you
think? Is there an issue like this
where you live? |

Standing up in front of your
peers and giving a presentation
can be a challenging and
nerve-wracking experience...
|
...The students needed to be
clear and confident about the
positions they represented,
even if they did not necessarily
agree with them.

Liam Carr deals with
presentation anxiety by fixing
up his hair, as he helps to
prepare the natives' side of the
whaling issue.
