Phil Davies has a Ph.D. in Marine Biology and joined the SFS
team in July 1996. After attaining his undergraduate degree in
Marine Biology at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne,
England, he was awarded a scholarship to study for a Ph.D. in
Townsville, Australia. During his doctoral studies in coral biology,
he was involved with numerous field projects, from the mass-spawning of corals to sea turtle
research. Phil has taught zoology at James Cook University along with diving and tropical marine
ecology, while working for an ecotourism project in Indonesia. He is very computer literate,
having worked in the Production Unit at the Australian Institute of Marine Sciences and for a
graphic design studio in England. His publications to date concern the effects of sedimentation on
corals, but also include a regular cartoon strip in a diving magazine!
