D. Brian Dean

Davidson College
from Laurinburg, NC

I was born on December 4, 1975 to Daniel B. and Ellen G. Dean of Laurinburg, North Carolina. Their last child, I was preceded only by a sister six years older. From birth until second grade we lived in the same house in Laurinburg. In 1984 we moved about 100 yards down the road to a different house in which we still reside. After graduating from Scotland High School (a large 9-12 public school) in 1994, I began studying at Davidson College, following the foosteps of my sister, my father, and my grandfather.

From earliest childhood I have held a deep love and attraction for the sea. This love, combined with my sincere interest in biology led me to pursue marine biology as study concentration for my major (biology.) Having already had a tasts of SFS through my sister, who particpated in the Wildlife Management program in 1990 it was only natural that I looked to SFS as a place where I could learn and actually live with all of those wonderful things that I had been reading about since childhood. So here I am, living with the water, the waves, and the fish: a dream come true!
