Kara Dwyer

Harvard University
from Scituate, MA

My name is Kara Lynn Dwyer and I am a junior at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. For the past two years I have been studying a combination of Biology and Biological Anthropology. Unfortunately, Harvard doesn’t have a large marine biology department. Since marine biology is my main field of interest, I applied to the SFS Center for Marine Resources Studies program. By studying abroad in the Turks and Caicos Islands, I will have a full semester of marine topics, in a marine environment. I think the importance of field research, even at the undergraduate level, can’t be stressed enough. I was interested in SFS partly because of the subject matter, and partly because of the SFS concept of living in the field. It’s also important to me to branch out of my home school, whether to be exposed to new subject material or just to meet a different group of people and learn how to adapt to new challenges and settings
