Hey there! My name is Matthew Ryan. I am a 20-year-old junior majoring in Environmental Studies (with a concentration in Marine Ecology) at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, a quaint small town in Central Ohio. I chose to attend Denison because I knew that I would obtain good experience and knowledge in my field (Environmental Studies) as well as a quality education in other areas of interest.

My life at Denison has been very enjoyable. In addition to my coursework, I have been a member of the varsity football team for three years, playing middle linebacker. I am also a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. These two activities keep me very busy and often leave me with little freedom from school work, but I have never regretted participating in either of them

A few years ago, I decided I wanted to pursue a career dedicated to the preservation of our oceans and marine environments. Choosing to study at the School for Field Studies’ lab in the Turks and Caicos Islands was a natural path for me to take in order to realize my goal of working in the field of marine ecology.

I am sure that the School for Field Studies will help me along the way in my pursuit. There are many excellent educational opportunities available for you to pursue, such as Oceans Live ’97. My advice to you as future college students is to take advantage of the resources available to you and to follow your dreams wherever they may lead you.
