Davidson College My name is Cynthia Seegers and I'm from Granville, Ohio. I am presently a junior at Davidson College in North Carolina where I am a biology major. In most of the biology courses that I have taken, very rarely am I given the chance to conduct research and experiments of which the results are unknown. Usually, my laboratory tasks are redundant; I find myself being graded on how close I come to the "correct" result, rather than significant conclusions that I draw from my observations. And what better way to conduct novel research in real-life situations than in an environment, such as South Caicos, where my efforts can improve the lives of others? In addition to studying biology at Davidson, I also spend a great deal of my time playing volleyball. Not only is Davidson a difficult school academically, it also competes at the Division I level in athletics, thereby creating a situation that forces me to push myself to the limit everyday. I love the challenge, which is another reason that I chose to study marine biology on South Caicos. I'm looking forward to not only study a field of biology in which my school does not offer instruction, I cannot wait to challenge myself mentally and physically. I'm hoping that my enthusiasm for knowledge will be contagious. I'm looking forward to sharing my interests by helping to find ways to improve the environment for others. |
