Hillary Herning

Hi !!! My name is Hillary Herning and I am from Menlo Park in northern California. I am currently a senior at the University of San Diego studying environmental studies and international relations. I am hoping to graduate in December of the year 2000. I chose this SFS program in Australia because of the unique opportunity to study rain forest ecology and policy while actually living in the forests. Up to this point in my education I have focused primarily on marine ecosystems, oceanography, and marine invertebrates. These next few months will definitely be a welcomed change and a time to learn about a completely different and complex ecosystem. Particularly I am interested in the policy issues that are involved in rainforest management and in the mediation techniques used to create a balance among the politicians, the ecologists and the society at large. Within this balance I believe that we can find the solutions to many environmental issues. I look forward to the challenges that the School for Field Studies will offer in these next few months and also for the chance to explore Australia.
