Visit to Ross Chapman's Dairy Farm
pictures courtesy of Cathy Bierly, Intern

Recently we visited Ross Chapman's dairy farm where we learned about good farm managing techniques that will allow farmers to be more productive and still protect the environment. Some examples; animals are not allowed to over graze the land, reforested areas near stream beds for better water quality & less erosion, creation of cattle crossings so cows do not ruin the streams. While we were visiting we participated in an afternoon case study on data collection and had a field lecture on private economic benefits of riparian reforestation. Throughout the day we were transported around in the back of Ross' pick-up truck.(see our group picture to the right!)
