Visit to Ross Chapman's Dairy Farm
pictures courtesy of Cathy Bierly, Intern
| Recently we visited Ross Chapman's dairy farm where we learned about good farm managing techniques that will allow farmers to be more productive and still protect the environment. Some examples; animals are not allowed to over graze the land, reforested areas near stream beds for better water quality & less erosion, creation of cattle crossings so cows do not ruin the streams. While we were visiting we participated in an afternoon case study on data collection and had a field lecture on private economic benefits of riparian reforestation. Throughout the day we were transported around in the back of Ross' pick-up truck.(see our group picture to the right!) | ![]() |
