From the week ending October 3, 1997
On Monday, September 22, 1997 we packed up and left for our three day field trip to Mission Beach. On the first day of our trip we attended lectures given by Joan Bentrupperbaumer, the local cassowary expert. After the lecture we hiked to the Kennedy Bay Study Area to see where she has been conducting a study on the cassowary for the past eight years.

After eating lunch we attended a field lecture where Joan discussed management issues of the coastal cassowary habitat. Below, Joan is showing us aerial photos of the Mission Beach Area in order for us to see how land management effects cassowary habitats.
