Sharon Cislowski
Intern
G'day, my name is Sharon Cislowski and I'm the first Australian intern here at the Centre for
Rainforest Studies. I'll be co-ordinating all of the information that comes your way from our
school. I come from a small cane-farming district called the Burdekin (after the river on which two
sister towns are settled), on the east coast about 450km south of the centre. I left the district to
complete a science degree at James Cook University of North Queensland (located in
Townsville), with a major in Marine Biology and a minor in Zoology. As a student, I worked
casually at a local Library and assisted graduate students with various aspects of research. After
graduating, I began a graduate course in Archaeology, with a proposed research project
focussing on coastal aboriginal sites of an area around Townsville. I haven't completed the course
however, I hope to return to that study sometime in the future. I love being a part of the Centre
community and helping to provide the learning experience that the students take home with them.
In my opinion, education is the most effective way of ensuring that our wonderful natural assets
are appreciated and preserved.
