Smith College My name is Lissa Harris and I hail from Denver in the Catskills of upstate New York (not Colorado!). I am a junior at Smith College with a major in philosophy and a minor in biology. I always have been interested in field biology. After a trip to the Brazilian Amazon three years ago, I knew I wanted to study in the rainforest. When I heard about SFS's Australian program a year later, it sounded perfect -- a combination of theoretical science and real, hands on field work in an ecosystem that is one of the greatest wonders of this earth. I hope that through this program I can gain a better understanding of how to study something as complex as a living rainforest, and have a chance to participate in field science in action. I would like to do rainforest conservation work in the future, if all goes well this semester. When I'm not reading too much Plato, I fence, read and write poetry, sing in an acapella group call the Smiffenpoofs, and raise reptiles. |
