Tessie TumanengFaculty I grew up in a fishing village surrounded by rainforests in the northern part of the Philippines. I finished my Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Forestry (major in Forest Resources Management) from the University of the Philippines at Los Banos in 1977 and 1982, respectively. While serving as a faculty member at the same University, I conducted researches, both individually and as a part of a team, in forest policies and their effects on the sustainable management of forest resources. I traveled extensively in the Philippines while conducting researches in agroforestry, and in Japan under an RP-Japan exchange scientist programm. When I migrated to Australia in 1985, where I worked for five years as a bilingual social worker for the Department of Immigration, dealing mostly with victims of domestic violence. In 1992, I was awarded a postgraduate scholarship at the University of Melbourne and a fellowship by the International Tropical Timber Organization.
