My home town is Uxbridge, Massachusetts. I attended the Uxbridge public schools. At Uxbridge High School, I played trumpet in the band and was a member of the cross country and tennis teams. I was also an officer of the student council and coordinator for the town's recycling program. Currently, I am a Biology major at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. I have been a member of the Smith College Cycling Club, Service Organizations of Smith, the college choirs and the recycling organization. My work experience includes zoo keeper/educator at Southwick's Zoo in Mendon, MA, veterinary assistant for Dr. Berens in Northampton, MA, and lab technician at Associates of Cape Cod.
I applied to The School for Field Studies program, because of its commitment to the environment and to the educational community. I was intrigued by the opportunity to study real environmental issues through field work and practical experience. I am interested in the diversity and complexity of the rainforest ecosystem, and want to learn about the people and policies that affect it. The Field Studies experience will be an education in the delicate balance between the environment and man, and will be invaluable for any future career in the natural sciences.
